Clinical study of bone scan in the evaluation of bone metastasis of lung cancer

Abstract
In 122 lung cancer patients, bone scan and clinical finding were evaluated to define the indication of bone scan and following results were obtained
1) The positive rate of routine bone scan was 43%.
2) The positive rate of bone scan in the presence of bone pain was 78% and 33% without pain.
3) The prevalence rate of bone pain among the positive bone scan was 22%.
4) The serum alkaline phosphatase and calcium values were not helpful for bone metastasis.
5) The corrrelation rate between bone scan and bone x-ray was 33%.
6) The prevalence of monostotic abnormality among positive bone scan was 22% and the rib was the most common site (50%).
